This recipe is over 100 years old and my Mother-in-Law was making this when she was 8 and her mother before her. She went home to the Lord not long ago. Enjoy

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 - large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 4 cups flour
How To Make sugar cakes by rose

Step 1First section: Mix until creamy: shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla and baking powder....set aside

Step 2Second: Mix seperately, buttermilk and baking soda

Step 3Third:Alternate buttermilk mixture with 4 cups of flour into the creamed mixture.

Step 4Set oven at 350. Drop by spoonfulls onto a greased cookie sheet... u can use tablespoon full if you want them larger. Put at least 2 inches apart. Sprinkle lightly with sugar BEFORE baking. 12 to 14 minutes....should be lightly browned.
