i have used this recipe for many years, i have tried others but this is the best

  • 21/2 cups sifted self rising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups cooking oil
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 - bottles red food coloring
  • CREAM CHEESE ICING
  • 1 stick butter, room temperature
  • 1-8 ounce cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts if you want them
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • MIX WELL CAN ALSO DOUBLE ICING RECIPE

How To Make red velvet cake

  • Step 1
    sift flour,before measuring-this is easy start at the top and add all ing. to a stand mixer or use a hand mixer and mix on low for 4 minutes.
  • Step 2
    grease and flour 2- 8 in pans pour in mixture and bake at 350 for 28 minutes
  • Step 3
    cool in pans 10 minutes then turn out onto paper towels to cool
  • Step 4
    the top will leave some crumbs on the paper towels ,i always crumble them on top of the iced cke --really pretty
