This recipe was giving to my wife and myself, from a dear friend. It is a very old recipe from Ohio in 1906 or 1907

Ingredients

  • PART 1
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup water
  • PART 2
  • 1/2 TO 2/3 cups shortening
  • 1 slice sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make red chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Mix together Part 1 and bring to boiling point. cook
  • Step 2
    Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and beat until fluffy, add eggs and beat thoroughly.
  • Step 3
    Sift flour; measure and add salt and soda. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with vanilla. Combine with first mixture.
  • Step 4
    Pour into two 8" layer pans, greased with flour. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
