My husband and I enjoy this delicious easy to make chocolate cake. No butter or eggs were needed to make this cake. And yes it's quite delicious!

Ingredients

  • cake ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup hershey's special dark cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • additional cake ingredients:
  • 1 cup cool water
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar 5% acidity
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • frosting ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hershey's special dark cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make quick & easy chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • Step 2
    Grease the inside of an 8x8-inch square cake pan. Then set pan aside.
  • Step 3
    In a medium size bowl sift together, the cake ingredients, then set the bowl aside.
  • Step 4
    In a measuring cup, which holds 2 cups, combine the water, vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract.
  • Step 5
    Add liquid ingredients into bowl, and gently stir until there are no lumps. (Stir for about 30 seconds.)
  • Step 6
    Pour into baking pan, and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step 7
    Cool the cake completely in the pan, then frost the cake. Sprinkle a few decorative Rainbow Jimmies on top of the frosting. (I then place the frosted cake in the refrigerator so the frosting will firm up.) Then cut the cake, and serve.
  • Step 8
    Additional note: I always cover the cake after I place it in the refrigerator.
