How to Make Oreo Cakes and Cupcakes - Show Stoppers!

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Make your cake batter according to box mix directions (or your favorite recipe directions)

*** I usually add cocoa powder to cake mixes to make them a darker chocolate.
  3. Put batter into buttered and floured baking pan (9 x 13).
  4. (12 x 22) sheet pan.
  5. Paper cup lined muffin pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees as directed on your cake mix box or according to your own recipe.
  7. Completely cool cake, cupcake or muffin.
  8. Make frosting by combining frosting ingredients and whipping them together.

Add the milk a little at a time until you get the consistency you want.

*** I have made this recipe with store bought frosting too.
  9. Get your frosting and cookie crumbs ready while cake is baking.

    Cool completely.

Cut cake into desired size you want to work with. (I like a 3 x 3 or a 4 x 4 piece of cake to work with.

Frost the top and all four sides of each square of cake.

*** If you FREEZE cake before frosting... it helps prevent cake from crumbling.
  10. Sprinkle and press Oreo cookie crumbs on top and on all four sides of pieces of cake.
  11. Put desired amount of Oreo cookie crumbs onto top of cupcake or muffin. Garnish with a whole or a half of a cookie.

*** Optional: Make a little chocolate frosting to garnish cupcakes or muffins as in the photo. Just add some cocoa powder to already made frosting and a teaspoon or so of milk.
    *** OR... buy chocolate frosting.
