old fashioned butter nut cake

This cake is divine and NOT HEALTHY. :-) This recipe came from my aunt, who got it from my grandmother. (She died before I was born and was making this cake in the 40s and 50s, according to my dad).

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crisco (not oil, the stuff in the can!)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla, butter & nut flavoring
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup self rising flour
  • 1 cup milk, whole
  • 4 - eggs
  • ICING
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons canned milk (pet or carnation)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, butter & nut flavoring

How To Make old fashioned butter nut cake

  • Step 1
    Cream crisco and mix in sugar
  • Step 2
    Add eggs, one at a time and beat
  • Step 3
    Mix flour together and add to mixture
  • Step 4
    Add milk and flavor. Beat and pour into a bundt pan sprayed with cooking spray (such as Pam) or two round cake pans.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 325 for one hour.
  • Step 6
    Cream butter until fluffy. Add part of the powdered sugar and beat. Continue adding sugar and milk in small batches and beat until very fluffy. Stir in flavoring. Frost/Ice your cake.
