I've used this multi-generational recipe for potlucks, classroom parties--whenever there is a crowd and I never come home with an extra piece!

Ingredients

  • MIX TOGETHER:

  • 2 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • BOIL:

  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 stick
    butter
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa
  • POUR ABOVE OVER FLOUR MIXTURE AND MIX WELL, THEN ADD:

  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • MIX WELL AND POUR INTO UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET. BACK AT 400 DEGREES FOR 20 MIN. ADD ICING WHEN CAKE IS SEMI-COOLED.

  • ICING: MIX TOGETHER AND BRING TO A BOIL, THEN REMOVE FROM HEAT:

  • 3 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 6 Tbsp
    milk
  • ADD ABOVE TO:

  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar
  • 1/2 lb
    chopped walnuts (optional)
  • MIX AND SPREAD OVER CAKE.
