1/3 c
unsalted butter, softened

eggs
1 c
pure maple syrup
1 1/4 c
all purpose flour
2 tsp
baking powder
pinch
salt
1 c
walnuts, coarsely chopped

FROSTING

2 Tbsp
unsalted butter
1 c
sifted powdered sugar
pure maple syrup, as needed

How to Make Mennonite Maple Walnut Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly coat an 8-square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • 2Beat together butter, eggs, and syrup.
  • 3Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir into butter mixture gradually. Beat with whisk until smooth fold in walnuts.
  • 4Pour into a greased square pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • 5Let cool completely in pan on wire rack before frosting.
  • 6To make frosting, Melt butter and blend in the powdered sugar. Add just enough maple syrup yo bring it to spreading consistency.
  • 7Frost top of cake and serve.
