My grandmother and Mom used to make this for us. My uncle always requested it for his birthday cake. It was best iced with Mom's Chocolate Frosting which I'll post also. I don't have a picture for it yet, but will post one soon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (you can use salad dressing)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 - egg yolks
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

How To Make mayonnaise (salad dressing) cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour pan(s).
  • Step 2
    Mix first 7 ingredients thoroughly.
  • Step 3
    Combine hot water and baking soda, then add to above mixture.
  • Step 4
    Pour into prepared pans. Bake 30-45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Step 5
    Let cool then ice. (My mom always used her homemade chocolate frosting. It hardened up and was almost like a glaze of fudge)
