I got this recipe from Miss Jeanette, she's elderly lady. But you wouldn't believe it. I hope you enjoy it. I love figs and if you like them you'll love this cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (all purpose flour)
  • 1-teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1teaspoon cloves (l don't like it so l don't use it)
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar

  • Step 1
    Mix the above and dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl
  • Step 2
    1 cup of Crisco or Wesson oil
  • Step 3
    Three eggs
  • Step 4
    One cup of buttermilk
  • Step 5
    One teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Step 6
    One cup of fig preserves and juice, mashed together
  • Step 7
    One cup of chopped pecans or walnuts, fold in last
  • Step 8
    Add oil to dry ingredients and be well. Next add eggs one at a time beating well after each egg. Then add buttermilk and preserves . Pour into well buttered tube or bundt pan.( I use spray) . Bake at 350° for 1 hour or check it . Use the toothpick test. Remove from oven and have glaze ready to pour over hot cake in the pan.

    Glaze for Fig Cake::. 1 cup of sugar, a half a cup of buttermilk. One teaspoon of vanilla extract. One tablespoon of white Karo. 1/4 cup of butter
  • Step 10
    Place all together it saucepan and bring to a rolling boil. Boil 3 minutes. Pour over hot cake in pan. Cool before removing from pan
