Ingredients

  • DOUGH

  • 1 1/4 c
    warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    cooking oil
  • 3 1/4 c
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    dry milk
  • 2 tsp
    active yeast
  • FILLING

  • 1 (8oz) pkg
    cream cheese
  • 1/2 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    milk
  • GLAZE

  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar

How to Make King Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix ingredients for dough; separate into 2 equal portions. Place on floured board and roll out into rectangles about 1/4" thick.
  2. Soften cream cheese and mix ingredients for filling. Spread filling over the dough.
  3. Roll dough sections from long side. Twist the two sections around each other and place in greased tube baking pan.
  4. Let rise in warm place until double sized (about 1 hour).
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  6. Let cool completely. While cooling, mix ingredients for glaze. When cooled, glaze.
  7. For added fun, separate glaze into three parts and add purple, green and yellow food coloring, then glaze your cake!
