Ever tried to buy the little packets of vanilla sugar at the store? I have and it nearly broke the bank! This is a great addition to your spices. I use it to make my strudel, sprinkle on my cinnamon toast, I use it to make powdered sugar for my french toast. I even use it in my coffee. There are endless ways to use this mixture.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound white cane sugar.
  • 6 - whole vanilla beans.

How To Make homemade vanilla sugar.

  • Step 1
You will need 1 mason jar with lid and ring. I use a pint sized one.
  • Step 2
I cut my beans in half, so I have 12 pieces. I put 3 bean halves in the bottom of the jar, then pour about a cup of sugar over that. Then I put 3 more halves of the beans in and more sugar, and continue to layer till jar is full.
  • Step 3
The amounts of sugar may vary, I don't usually measure. Just go by site. I personally do about 12 at a time and I buy sugar in bulk so I'm just guessing at the amount for one jar. I usually let this sit for about 2-4 weeks before using the sugar. The longer you wait the better it is.
  • Step 4
Here is an excellent source for my vanilla beans, they can be very expensive. So I use this place and I haven't found a cheaper place to get them. I use the bourbon beans myself. http://www.vanillaproductsusa.com/servlet/the-template/about/Page
