1Place oven rack in lowest position. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees.
2In a small bowl, combine flour and 3/4 cup of sugar.
In a large mixing bowl, combine egg whites, cream of tartar, vanilla, salt, and almond extract, beat at high speed till soft peaks form. Gradually add the other 3/4 cup of sugar and beat on high till stiff peaks form.
3Spoon flour mixture, 1/4 cup at a time, folding in each time till blended. Pour batter into ungreased 10 inch tube pan, with a knife, gently cut through batter to remove any large air bubble.
4Bake on lowest rack for 35 minutes or till crust is golden brown. Turn pan upside down on a glass bottle and let cool for about an hour.
