I used a Bundt pan for the cake pictured. I dusted it with confectioners' sugar and inverted it, just to be a little different.

This is a wonderfully moist and delicious chocolate cake.  Surprisingly, the beer really enhanced the flavor of the chocolate, and the sour cream helped to make it so moist.  If you are a chocolate lover then this is a must try.  (And it was easy too!)

Ingredients For guinness chocolate cake

  • 1 c
    Guinness draft beer
  • 3/4 c
    sour cream
  • 1 stick
    unsalted butter (add 2 tbsp if you'd like)
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 Tbsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 c
    unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 3 c
    confectioner's sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking soda

How To Make guinness chocolate cake

    Preheat the oven to 350F. Butter and line a 9-inch springform pan.

    Pour the Guinness into a large wide saucepan; add the butter – in spoons or slices – and heat until the butter's melted. Whisk in the cocoa and sugar.

    Beat the sour cream with the eggs and vanilla and then pour into the saucepan. Whisk in the flour and baking soda.

    Pour the cake batter into the greased and lined pan and bake for 45 minutes to an hour. Leave to cool completely in the pan on a cooling rack.
