1/2 c
cocoa powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
salt

eggs
1 c
vegetable oil
1 c
soured milk (add 1 tsp. vinegar to milk)
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
boiling water

FROSTING

1/2 c
butter
1/4 c
cocoa powder
6 Tbsp
milk
4 c
powdered sugar

How to Make Granny's Chocolate Oil Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 9x13 cake pan.
  • 2In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add the rest of the ingredients for the cake. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed
  • 3Pour into prepared pan, and bake 35 - 40 minutes until done.
  • 4When cake is almost done baking prepare frosting. Heat butter, cocoa, and milk to boiling. Pour over powdered sugar and mix well.
  • 5Allow cake to cool for about 10 minutes. Poke small holes in the cake, I use the end of a wooden spoon, then frost the cake while still warm.
