According to my mom, her father was a fine cook who prepared Sunday dinners every week. This is the only one of his recipes that she still has. This one is dated 20 April 1966. I've rearranged it so that ingredients are listed in order of use.

Ingredients
- SIFT TOGETHER IN A MEDIUM BOWL
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- CREAM TOGETHER IN A MIXING BOWL
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- ADD TO MIXTURE
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 - eggs
- MIX TOGETHER IN A BOWL
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- ADD TO MIXTURE
- 2 - bananas, crushed
- TOP WITH
- 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9" cake pans. Set aside.

Step 2Mix baking soda, salt, and flour in a medium bowl. Sift. In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; mix well. Add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately, mixing well after each addition. Fold in bananas. Pour into prepared pans.

Step 3Bake 40-45 minutes in preheated oven.
