  • GOLDEN LAYER CAKE
  • 2¼ c
    cake flour
  • 1½ c
    sugar
  • 3 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1½ tsp
    vanilla
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • CARAMEL FROSTING
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    dark brown sugar; packed
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 2 c
    confectioners' sugar

How To Make golden layer cake with caramel frosting

    Heat oven to 350° F. Grease rectangular cake pan.

    Beat all ingredients for the cake in a large bowl occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat for 3 minutes.

    Pour into pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

    For the icing: Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar and salt.

    Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil hard for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

    Remove from heat; cool to lukewarm. Stir in confectioners' sugar and beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick beat in a little milk.
