- GOLDEN LAYER CAKE
- 2¼ cups cake flour
- 1½ cups sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup shortening
- CARAMEL FROSTING
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar; packed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cups confectioners' sugar
How To Make golden layer cake with caramel frosting

Step 1Heat oven to 350° F. Grease rectangular cake pan.

Step 2Beat all ingredients for the cake in a large bowl occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat for 3 minutes.

Step 3Pour into pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

Step 4For the icing: Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar and salt.

Step 5Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil hard for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Step 6Remove from heat; cool to lukewarm. Stir in confectioners' sugar and beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick beat in a little milk.
