all purpose flour
1/12 c
white sugar
1/2 c
butter
1 Tbsp
ginger
1 Tbsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
salt
1 c
buttermilk
1
egg
3 Tbsp
light molasses
2 Tbsp
boiling water
1 tsp
baking soda

How to Make Gingerbread

Step-by-Step

  • 1Mix flour, sugar, butter, ginger, cinnamon, and salt with pastry blender or fork so dough is crumbly. Set aside 1/4 cup for topping.
  • 2Add buttermilk,egg, and molasses; mix baking soda with boiling water before adding to batter. Pour into sheet cake pan.
  • 3Bake at 350 degrees F for about 25 minutes. Sprinkle reserved topping and bake for additional 10-15 minutes.
