This has to be my families favorite dessert. It has the consistency of a thick brownie with fudge on top. It has a lot of ingredients, but is really simple to make and worth the effort. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached white flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shortnening
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, unsalted
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 pound 10x powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, optional

How To Make fudge cake

  • Step 1
    1 In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and sugar.
  • Step 2
    In a large sauce pan, melt butter, shortening, water and cocoa. Bring to a rapid boil.
  • Step 3
    Pour hot mixture over flour and sugar,
  • Step 4
    Mix in eggs, baking soday, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat well with a large spoon until all ingredients are combined.
  • Step 5
    Pour cake mixture in a 9 x 13 greased baking pan.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 400 degrees until cake is done, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Start making fudge icing for the cake about 10 minutes before cake is cooked.
  • Step 8
    In a separate sauce pan, heat oleio, cocoa and milk. Bring to a boil.
  • Step 9
    Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and pecans. Pour icing over hot cake as soon as it is removed from oven. Spread evenly
  • Step 10
    Cool cake compeletely before serving.
