These are rich, & decadent, & totally yummy. My Mom & I make these in alternating flavors, to see who can come up with the best one. This is a recipe that you can play with, adjusting the flavor to suit yourself. Just change the flavor of the cake mix, & the extract that you use. I like Butter & vanilla myself, but caramel, & vanilla is also good.

How to Make Chess Squares

Step-by-Step

  • 1Mix the cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick of softened butter, together. Spread it on the bottom of a 9" by 13" pan
  • 2Cream the room temp cream cheese, till light & fluffy, add the 2, lightly beaten eggs, mix until everything is well mixed. Add the powdered sugar, and 1 tsp. of extract, your choice of flavor, I like pure vanilla, or butter, but it is your treat, so once you are comfortable with the recipe, then play with it.
