I've always loved these delicious, moist bars...this recipe comes from my great grandmother, as far as gram could remember. They are great with just a sprinkling of confectioners' sugar, but can ice if you prefer. I like to be able to taste the flavors, so I don't usually add a glaze.

Ingredients

1 c
each - raisins & water
1/2 c
oil
1 c
sugar
1
slightly beaten egg
1 3/4 c
flour
1/4 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
each - ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
1/2 c
chopped nuts

How to Make ~ Awesome Spice Raisin Bars ~

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a medium saucepan, bring raisins and water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in oil. Cool just to lukewarm.

    Preheat oven to 375 degree F. Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish or pan.

    Stir in sugar and egg.
  • 2In a medium bowl, sift together flour, spices, soda and salt. Beat the raisin mixture into the flour mixture and stir in nuts.
  • 3Pour and spread evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • 4When cool you can glaze or sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
