~ awesome spice raisin bars ~

I've always loved these delicious, moist bars...this recipe comes from my great grandmother, as far as gram could remember. They are great with just a sprinkling of confectioners' sugar, but can ice if you prefer. I like to be able to taste the flavors, so I don't usually add a glaze. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup each - raisins & water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 - slightly beaten egg
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon each - ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

How To Make ~ awesome spice raisin bars ~

  • Step 1
    In a medium saucepan, bring raisins and water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in oil. Cool just to lukewarm. Preheat oven to 375 degree F. Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish or pan. Stir in sugar and egg.
  • Step 2
    In a medium bowl, sift together flour, spices, soda and salt. Beat the raisin mixture into the flour mixture and stir in nuts.
  • Step 3
    Pour and spread evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Step 4
    When cool you can glaze or sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
