~ awesome spice raisin bars ~
I've always loved these delicious, moist bars...this recipe comes from my great grandmother, as far as gram could remember. They are great with just a sprinkling of confectioners' sugar, but can ice if you prefer. I like to be able to taste the flavors, so I don't usually add a glaze. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 cup each - raisins & water
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 - slightly beaten egg
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon each - ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Step 1In a medium saucepan, bring raisins and water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in oil. Cool just to lukewarm. Preheat oven to 375 degree F. Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish or pan. Stir in sugar and egg.

Step 2In a medium bowl, sift together flour, spices, soda and salt. Beat the raisin mixture into the flour mixture and stir in nuts.

Step 3Pour and spread evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes.

Step 4When cool you can glaze or sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
