applesauce spice bars

Went to an auction and found this old tin recipe box with hand written recipes and some clipped from various places. This one sounded pretty good.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 cups bisquick baking mix
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup chopped nutes

How To Make applesauce spice bars

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350. Grease oblong pan, 13x9x2
  • Step 2
    Beat applesauce, brownsugar, oil, and eggs in large bowl at medium speed. For about 1 minute.
  • Step 3
    Stir in baking mix, pumpkin pie spice, and nuts. Pour into prepared pan evenly.
  • Step 4
    Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick is clean when inserted. Cool
  • Step 5
    Prepare Browned Butter Glaze: Heat butter over low heat until golden brown; remove from heat. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir in water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until smoothe and of desired consistency.
  • Step 6
    Spread on cooled cake. Cut into bars, about 3x1 inch.
