Applesauce Spice Bars

Went to an auction and found this old tin recipe box with hand written recipes and some clipped from various places. This one sounded pretty good.

  • 1 c
  • 2/3 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c
    vegetable oil
  • 2
  • 2 c
    bisquick baking mix
  • 1/4 c
  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 or 2 Tbsp
    hot water
  • 1 tsp
    pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nutes

How to Make Applesauce Spice Bars


  1. Heat oven to 350. Grease oblong pan, 13x9x2
  2. Beat applesauce, brownsugar, oil, and eggs in large bowl at medium speed. For about 1 minute.
  3. Stir in baking mix, pumpkin pie spice, and nuts. Pour into prepared pan evenly.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick is clean when inserted. Cool
  5. Prepare Browned Butter Glaze: Heat butter over low heat until golden brown; remove from heat. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir in water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until smoothe and of desired consistency.
  6. Spread on cooled cake. Cut into bars, about 3x1 inch.
