This cake is a sweet crunchy treat to bake at apple picking time ! We used winesap apples and it turned out great.This recipe was in an old cookbook from my mother-in-laws church.

Ingredients

coffee cake :
1 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
salt
!/2 c
sugar
1/2 stick
butter, unsalted
1
egg
1/4 c
plain yogurt
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2 c
thinly sliced peeled cooking apples
topping:
1/4 c
all purpose flour
1/4 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 stick
butter

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 400 degrees.Spray 8' sq. pan with cooking spray.In small bowl combine 1 cup flour,baking powder,baking soda and salt; mix well and set aside.
2In large bowl combine 1/2 stick butter and sugar; beat til light and fluffy.Add egg and vanilla and blend well.Alterately add flour mixture and yogurt to butter mixture,beating well after each addition.
Spread batter in sprayed pan.Arrange apple slices over batter.
3In small bowl,combine all topping ingredients.With pastry blender cut in butter until crumbly.Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
4Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 10 minutes.Enjoy !
