Here is another great dessert from the BH&G Oven Meals cookbook. My mother passed this book on to me--she must have known I would make good use of it one day. If you love apples, dates, and nuts, this is for you! Photo by: ifood.tv

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 - eggs, beaten
  • 1 can (21 oz.) apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pitted dates
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

How To Make apple-date dream

  • Step 1
    In a medium bowl, combine thoroughly the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and allspice. In a second bowl, combine eggs, pie filling, oil and vanilla.
  • Step 2
    Stir into flour mixture and mix well. Stir in dates and nuts. Pour into a greased and floured 13x9x2" baking dish.
  • Step 3
    Bake in a pre-heated 350-degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool. Cut into squares and serve with whipped cream.
