This is another grandma recipe. I believe it was created to use up the granny smith apples that grew on the tree in her backyard.

Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 4 large apples, tart cooking, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup butter, melted
- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground allspice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- FROSTING:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
How To Make apple cake

Step 1For the cake, combine the chopped apple, 1 cup sugar, and 2/3 cup melted butter in a large bowl; stir well. Add eggs and vanilla, stirring well.

Step 2Combine flour and the next 4 ingredients; add to the apple mixture, stirring well. Stir in the pecans. Spoon the batter into a greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 3For the frosting, combine the cream cheese and 1/4 cup softened butter, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add the lemon juice and powdered sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Spread frosting on top of the cooled cake.
