A tasty treat for a holiday breakfast. Serve with maple syrup. Makes 4-6 waffles, depending on size of waffle iron. I have never made these on a Belgium waffle maker, so don't know if it would work.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 3 Tbsp
    molasses
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Spiced Gingerbread Waffles

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat waffle iron.
  2. In the meantime, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar and spices. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, butter, eggs, molasses and vanilla.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry, whisking until smooth.
  5. Coat waffle iron with cooking spray.
  6. Pour batter into waffle iron and cook as per instructions (it’s usually called for to fill the waffle well about 3/4 full). Close and cook until waffle is golden and cooked through.
