quinoa for breakfast

I love Quinoa. I've seen and made a lot of Quinoa salads, but did you know you can make it for breakfast too? It's a great alternative to oatmeal. I used chopped dates and walnuts in mine but any combination of dried or fresh fruit with nuts would work well. Who knew healthy food could be so delicious!!!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water
  • 6 - pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 - handful walnuts chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon agave syrup (or to taste)
  • - milk

How To Make quinoa for breakfast

  • Step 1
    In medium sized saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  • Step 2
    Add 1 Cup Quinoa, stir, return to boil and then lower to a simmer and cover.
  • Step 3
    Cook for 5 minutes then add the dates and nuts.
  • Step 4
    Cover and cook for another 10-15 minutes until the Quinoa has soaked up all the water.
  • Step 5
    Place desired amount of Quinoa in bowl and add cinnamon, agave syrup and milk to taste. Put the rest in the frig for another day. Enjoy.
  • Step 6
    I've also made this with diced apple and craisins...yum.
