This is the recipe Ma Burris made when she made coffee cake. I have yet to meet a coffee cake I don't like, but this one was always amazingly good with all the strussel and frosting!

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg
    duncan hines yellow cake mix
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 4
    serving size vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 1/3 c
    water
  • 2
    eggs
  • STRUSSEL:

  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • FROSTING:

  • 3/4 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    milk
  • CINNAMON FROSTING:

  • 1/2 c
    vanilla frosting
  • 1 tsp
    margarine
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon

How to Make Ma's Coffee Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat cake mix, pudding, oil, water and eggs for 2 min on med speed. Spread 3/4 batter into a greased 9x13. Cover with 2/3 strussel and remaining batter, then remaining strussel. Bake until toothpick comes out clean (look at the cake mix directions for an idea of the time).
  2. Mix powdered sugar and milk, drizzle over cake when cool.
  3. Heat frosting, 1 tsp margarine and cinnamon over med heat, drizzle over cake also.
