Ingredients
- - stone ground grits
- FOR FRUIT COMPOTE:
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup orange juice
How To Make grits & hot fruit

Step 1Prepare grits according to package directions. Note that stone ground grits are NOT the same as quick cook versions. They take longer to cook, but are creamy and flavorful. Two of my favorite brands are: (1) Delta Grind - www.deltagrind.com; and (2) The Grit Girl - www.gritgirl.net.

Step 2Place berries (substitute your favorites if you like), sugar and orange juice in a saucepan and bring mixture to a simmer.

Step 3Stir until the berries release their juices and are reduced to a syrupy consistency.

Step 4Pour grits into a bowl and top with hot fruit compote.
