best ever french toast
My mother-in-law always made the best French toast and said it was due to her secret ingredient. She finally told me what her secret ingredient was, so I added it to my own mixture, which was slightly different than hers, and am now happy to share this with others. I believe in sharing recipes, family secrets, and all, because it helps us all be better cooks. I hope you'll give this recipe a try next time you want to fix French toast for your family. Enjoy!
Blue Ribbon Recipe
This French toast recipe has a secret ingredient, and it's one no one will ever guess. Grated Parmesan cheese! Strange, we know, but it adds savoriness to the egg custard. It's a nice contrast to sweet syrup drizzled over the grilled French toast or the optional Bananas Foster topping (that is a must). Sliced bananas are sauteed with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. The caramelized bananas over the savory French toast elevate a classic breakfast.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine (I use a butter/canola blend)

- 1 pinch salt
- 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
- 12 slices bread
- OPTIONAL TOPPING: FAUX BANANAS FOSTER
- 1 large banana, sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 pinch cinnamon or more, adjust to taste
