This is best if left to soak overnight, but it can be ready in 30 minutes if you like chewy oats. Be sure to use old-fashioned rolled oats, because quick oats tend to be mushy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds or walnuts
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots or cranberries
  • 1 1/4 cups lowfat milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • 1 pinch salt (optional)
  • - yogurt for topping if desired

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients except yogurt in a bowl with airtight lid, making sure all oats are in contact with milk. A little more milk can be used if necessary.
  • Step 2
    Let sit refrigerated at least 1 hour, or refrigerate overnight. Serve topped with your choice of yogurt if desired.
