Ingredients

  • - 2 tbsp bacon grease
  • - 2 tbsp butter, salted
  • - 6 large green apples, unpeeled, cored, quartered, thick slices
  • - 3/4 cup sugar
  • - 1/4 - 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • - pinch of salt
  • - 1/4 cup water
  • - 1/4 lemon, juiced
  • - 1 tsp butter

How To Make fried apples

  • Step 1
    In a large cast iron pan heat the bacon grease and the butter.
  • Step 2
    Add the apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt and water, mix well; bring pan to a boil over medium high heat, cover and let the apples steam for 5 - 6 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Lower the heat and remove the lid, continue frying until the apples are tender and the syrup looks like it is jelling.
  • Step 4
    Sprinkle with lemon juice, mix and pour into a serving dish, add a dab of butter on top and enjoy.
