the best french toast

This is part of my quest to rid the world of French toast made from sliced sandwich bread! This is the way my mama always made French toast and it's the ONLY way I eat it. :)

Ingredients

  • 4 - eggs
  • 1 cup cream (or half & half or whole milk)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 - loaf fresh french bread
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

How To Make the best french toast

  • Step 1
    Begin by slicing the loaf of bread into 1 inch slices.
  • Step 2
    In a medium sized bowl whip together the eggs, cream, powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.
  • Step 3
    Heat the oil in your skillet. 350* for electric skillets and about medium on a stovetop.
  • Step 4
    Dip each bread slice into the egg/cream mixture. Coat well, but don't let it get too soggy! :) Place each slice into the skillet.
  • Step 5
    Fry 3 minutes or until a deep golden brown. Flip and repeat on opposite side.
  • Step 6
    Serve with butter and syrup or fresh fruit.
