This is as easy as store bought french toast, but all the healthy ingredients of homemade. I've been making this since the boys were little, all they had to do was pop this in the toaster and bam breakfast was on the table or in had to eat on the mile walk to the bus stop.

Ingredients

  • 4 - eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 8 - slices texas toast

How To Make texas french toast

  • Step 1
In a shallow bowl beat together eggs, milk, sugar, vanillaand cinnamon and nutmeg. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, coating both sides.
  • Step 2
In a skillet or on a griddle melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat; add half of the bread slices and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Repeat with remaining butter and bread slices. Serve warm.
  • Step 3
TO FREEZE: place french toast on waxed paper on cookie sheets and place in freezer, when frozen transfer to zip lock freezer bags and when ready to eat place in toaster. I usually triple or more this recipe.
  • Step 4
ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR BAKED FRENCH TOAST: Arrange the bread: * Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or large rimmed baking pan with butter or cooking spray. * Cut your bread into slices (if using a loaf). You can also cut the slices in half to fit better, if necessary. * Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, making sure both sides are fully coated. Arrange the soaked slices of bread in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Step 5
Bake the French toast: * Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until the French toast is golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges. The center should be cooked through, but soft and fluffy.
  • Step 6
Cool completely: * Once baked, transfer the French toast slices to a wire rack to cool completely.
