Ingredients

  • 6 1/2-7 cups flour
  • 2 packages quick rising yeast
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1-1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 stick softened butter
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons karo syrup
  • 1 stick butter
  • - cream cheese frosting

How To Make cinnamon rolls

  • Step 1
In a large mixing bowl- Add 5 1/2 cups of flour, the yeast, sugar and salt. Whisk until combined.
  • Step 2
Heat the water, milk and shortening together to 120-130 degrees. Add to flour mixture. Stir well. Add enough of the remaining flour, probably no more than 1 cup, to get the dough to come together and basically pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Step 3
Dump the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a clean towel and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Step 4
While waiting for the 10 minutes to pass, heat the 4 tablespoons of Brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of karo syrup and the stick of butter in a small microwave bowl. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Stir and then pour this into the large baking pan and spread around. Set aside.
  • Step 5
After the 10 minutes, uncover and roll the dough, out into a big oblong shape about 1/2" thick. Spread the softened butter all over. Sprinkle the sugar then the cinnamon. Starting at the long ends roll the prepared dough up into a long log roll. Cut into 12 pieces and place the pieces into the prepared baking pan.
  • Step 6
Cover with a clean kitchen towel and set in a warm place until the rolls have doubled in size. 30 minutes to about an hour.
  • Step 7
Heat oven 375. When the rolls have doubled in size, remove cover. Bake for about 20 minutes being careful to watch the rolls after 15 minutes. Rolls are done when they are a deep golden brown. Remove from oven. Cool slightly and then frost with the cream cheese frosting.
