Made some healthy waffles tonight with a wheat berry whole grain baking mix, with a homemade strawberry sauce! Delish!! Thought this would be a great breakfast for Your sweetheart on valentines day!
And yes a few drops of red food coloring for red waffles ;)

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    baking mix (used a berry whole grain mix)
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 Tbsp
    oil
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 3
    drops red food coloring
  • STRAWBERRY SAUCE

  • 1 qt
    strawberries hulled and quartered
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1
    orange zest and juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    corn starch

How to Make Red Sweetheart Waffles w/Strawberry Sauce

Step-by-Step

  1. Spray and heat up waffle iron.
  2. In a small pot mix, strawberries, sugar, water, and orange juice and zest. Cook on med high until bubbly, add cornstarch and whisk til start to thicken. Turn to simmer and slightly mash. Set aside for waffles.
  3. Mix waffle ingredients adding food coloring (optional) until desired color. Stir.
  4. Place about quarter cup mix in waffle iron close and cook for approximately 2min.

    Assemble 2 waffles top with strawberry sauce, dust with powdered sugar and whipped cream!!!
