Short cut monkey bread

Linda Mericle

Here is an easy way to make dessert for the family and impress them. Or make it part of your family breakfast. Perhaps for Mothers or Fathers day? Or a birthday? This photo is not of the batch we made in class, but is my own monkey bread recipe that I will be including, but is very similar to this. It is just using sweet dough instead of rolls.

How to Make Short cut monkey bread

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. You can use a monkey bread pan, a Bundt pan, a loaf pan or some other odd shaped pan as long as it deep enough to hold the 2 layers of rolls. Grease the pan. I like to put a spoonful of melted butter and a sprinkling of brown sugar in the bottom. Then sprinkle some of the nuts in.
  2. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Melt the butter. Open the cans of rolls, but do not unroll them! Take them out whole and slice into 8 round slices. Now cut those slices in half. Dip each half into the melted butter, then the brown sugar mix and place them in your prepared pan. After the first cans pieces are in, sprinkle in some more chopped nuts, then do the same with the rest of the pieces. If there is butter and sugar left when you are done, pour some over the top of the buns and sprinkle over the sugar. But not too much butter. Not more than say a couple of tablespoons.
  3. Place into the oven and bake until the tops are brown, checking after the first 20 minutes. Remove from the oven when done and cool in the pan for a couple of minutes. Then place a plate over the top and , using oven mitts, invert the pan so it is resting on the plate (or platter). carefully remove the pan, tilting it away from you so steam does not burn you. Voila! monkey bread is served.
