My childhood friend's mom used to make this delicious old fashioned loaf. We love it with cream cheese smeared on it. It is dark, moist and yummy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 pound raisens
  • 1 pound dates
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 - large eggs
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter

How To Make may's date nut loaf

  • Step 1
    2 greased loaf pans Put baking soda in boiling water and pour over fruit and nuts. Let stand one hour. Beat egg whites until stiff. Combine yolks, salt and all liquids and alternately mix with dry ingredients. Fold in egg whites and then the melted butter. Bake for 1 hour at 375.
