  • 2 1/2 c
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 c
  • q/2 c
    boiling water
  • 1 c
    dark molasses (full-flavored)

How to Make Grandma Beck's Gingerbread


  1. whisk together the dry ingredients. Melt the Crisco in the boiling water. Add the molasses and blend well.
  2. Stir in the dry ingredients and mix well. Bake in a greased 8" x 8" pan at 350 degrees F for about 30-40 minutes until it passes the toothpick test.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve with freshly whipped cream, or lemon sauce - or both!
