Well! Okay... The recipe is over 100 years old... I bought an old train magazine and came home to find between the pages was this recipe... was written on the back of an old church news letter dated Nov. 28,1954 with the caption on top saying... " 40 Year old recipe... " Crock of Doughnuts - Potato " makes 80

Ingredients

  • 2 cups hot mashed potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons lard yes lard
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • - pinch of salt
  • - pinch of nutmeg
  • 7 cups flour

How To Make fireman bob's 100 plus year old " spudnuts "

  • Step 1
    Combine potatoes, lard, sugar and eggs, mix together. Add milk, salt, nutmeg. Then adding the baking powder to the flour, add enough flour to stiffen. Roll dough out and cut with doughnut cutter.
  • Step 2
    Heat oil to 460 degrees ( being careful not to have a fire ) Place doughnuts in heated oil and cook till golden brown then flip onto the other side and repeat cooking till done.
  • Step 3
    Glaze the doughnuts ENJOY!
