This is another one of my Grandma Eunice Kaphingst's Date recipes, It's so easy to tell her most used recipes the cards they are written on are so worn and comments written on them.

Ingredients
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 - egg
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
How To Make date bread

Step 1Pour boiling water over dates, let stand until water cools.

Step 2Sift together flour, soda, and salt.

Step 3Cream together shortening and sugar, add egg, add flour alternatley with date mixture. Blend in nuts.

Step 4Pour into well greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes.
