A yummy twist to my traditional sweet potato bread recipe. I made it this way for the first time and it is delicious! I hope you enjoy it, too! :)

Move over banana bread, this sweet potato bread may be our new fall favorite. It has incredible sweet potato flavor, with just the right amount of spices and a beautiful layer of cream cheese baked in the center. Moist, sweet, and aromatic, it's nice enough to give as a hostess gift to friends.

Ingredients For cream cheese stuffed sweet potato bread

  • 2 c
    mashed sweet potatoes (you can use canned or fresh baked. If using canned, drain well)
  • 3 c
    white sugar
  • 4 lg
  • 1 c
    vegetable or canola oil
  • 3/4 c
    orange juice
  • 3 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 4 lg
  • 2 pkg
    cream cheese, softened; 8 oz each
  • 1 c
  • 2 tsp
  • 2/3 c
    flour (scant)

How To Make cream cheese stuffed sweet potato bread

Test Kitchen Tips
Be watchful of the time depending on the size pan you use. The bread should spring back when you lightly touch it or when a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Three greased loaf pans.
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour three loaf pans; set aside.
  • Eggs, oil, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
    SWEET POTATO BREAD: In large mixing bowl, beat together sugar, eggs, and oil.
  • Adding orange juice and sweet potato to egg mixture.
    Stir in orange juice and mashed sweet potatoes.
  • Spices added to flour.
    In a separate bowl mix together flour, salt, baking soda, and spices.
  • Combining wet and dry ingredients.
    Stir into sweet potato mixture just until combined, DO NOT USE A MIXER! Set aside while making filling.
  • Sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, and eggs in a mixing bowl.
    CREAM CHEESE FILLING: Beat together cream cheese, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and flour until smooth.
  • Sweet potato and cream cheese layers added to loaf pans.
    Spoon sweet potato bread batter into the bottom of each prepared loaf pan, reserving half of the batter. In each pan, layer cream cheese mixture over the sweet potato bread batter spreading smooth.
  • Sweet potato mixture on top of cream cheese layer.
    Top with the remaining batter.
  • Baked sweet potato bread.
    Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until golden and toothpick or knife inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes in the pan.
  • Sweet potato bread cooling on a rack.
    Remove from pans and cool on wire rack. You can serve warm or room temp.
