- 1 - level tablespoon lard
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- - lard to fry in
How To Make mary lou's buttermilk doughnuts

Step 1Heat oil to about 375 degrees.

Step 2Beat egg until lemon colored.

Step 3Add sugar to the beaten egg, beat until smooth.

Step 4Alternately add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk.

Step 5Roll out to desired thickness, add a little flour as you roll.

Step 6Cut out and fry in hot lard until golden brown, usually about three minutes on each side.
