How to Make Applesauce Nut Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
  2. In mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, & baking soda. Add pecans to dry mixture, if using, and mix them in.
  3. Combine egg, applesauce and either, shortening, butter, or vegetable oil; add flour mixture to egg mixture. Stir, just until blended.
  4. Put batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake in preheated oven. Test bread for doneness, with a knife, in the middle of the bread, after 45 minutes. Cook longer, if not done, up to another 15 minutes.
  5. Take pan out of oven. Cool in pan for 10 minutes; remove bread from pan. Cool on rack.
