This is a recipe that I got out of a local newspaper, when we lived in a small country town. The paper was called The Gleaner.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter or shortening or good spray of cooking spray for greasing of pan
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (more, if desired)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup pecans (optional)
- 1 - egg
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1 tablespoon shortening, butter, or vegetable oil
How To Make applesauce nut bread

Step 1Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.

Step 2In mixing bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, & baking soda. Add pecans to dry mixture, if using, and mix them in.

Step 3Combine egg, applesauce and either, shortening, butter, or vegetable oil; add flour mixture to egg mixture. Stir, just until blended.

Step 4Put batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake in preheated oven. Test bread for doneness, with a knife, in the middle of the bread, after 45 minutes. Cook longer, if not done, up to another 15 minutes.

Step 5Take pan out of oven. Cool in pan for 10 minutes; remove bread from pan. Cool on rack.
