My husband loves spicy & zesty food - everything has to be well seasoned! He and I came up with this recipe together.

rye bread (light or dark)
1 pkg
white or wheat bread
1 c
olive oil, extra virgin
1/2 c
parmesan cheese
1 Tbsp
garlic powder
1 Tbsp
italian seasoning
1 Tbsp
freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp

How to Make Zesty Homemade Croutons


  • 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • 2Cut bread into 1 inch cubes
  • 3Put in large mixing bowl & drizzle olive oil over the bread until well coated
  • 4Sprinkle cheese, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and salt & pepper over bread cubes and mix
  • 5Transfer to a large baking pan or cookie sheet and arrange to one layer
  • 6Bake for 10 minutes, remove pan from oven and stir croutons
  • 7Bake for 10 more minutes or until desired crunchiness
  • 8Cool on pan and transfer to air-tight container
  • 9Amount of seasoning can be adjusted to your preference. Bread doesn't have to be fresh - we buy day old bread from the store's bakery. The aroma while cooking will make your house smell great!
