yield 2 Loaves

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 4 teaspoons yeast - ( i use bread machine yeast)
  • - shortening - to grease 2 loaf pans
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

How To Make home made white bread

  • Step 1
Add ingredients to stand mixer w/ dough hook in the order the ingredients are listed.(you don't want to knead this by hand because you will wear yourself out before the bread is ready). Start mixer on low & allow to mix (scraping down sides until mixed). Then bump the speed up to 2 (or the next speed if your mixer isn't numbered). Allow the dough to mix until the dough turns loose from the sides of the bowl. Then remove the dough hook. Spray saran wrap and cover bowl and put in a warm place (I turn my oven on to the warm setting and open the door a crack and set my bowl on the edge of my stove top).
  • Step 2
Allow dough to rise until doubled in size; then punch down dough (you don't have to knead it down - just take your fist & stick it in the middle of the dough until it deflates). Then recover & allow to rise a 2nd time. Punch down. Then dump dough out onto a lightly floured surface and coat ur hands w/ flour so dough doesn't stick to them. Don't knead it just coat it with the flour until it forms a ball. Then pinch the dough in half making 2 balls the same size.
  • Step 3
Place each dough ball in the loaf pans & stretch them to where they are almost the length of the pan. Set back onto stove top, cover with the saran wrap & allow to rise a 3rd time. When dough has risen above the sides forming a loaf - preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place bread gently (so as to not make it fall) onto middle rack of your oven. Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes depending on your oven. (Mine took 25 minutes) Remove from oven, brush tops w/ melted butter & allow to cool. ENJOY!
