  • 4 ounces plain flour
  • 2 ounces wheatgrem
  • 12 - fl oz buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon bread soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How To Make an irish brown soda bread

  • Step 1
sieve the plain flour, salt, and bread soda into a bowl. Mix in the wholemeal and wheatgrem. Add enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface .Knead until the mixture comes together smoothly. Place the dough on a floured baking sheet. Cut a cross over the top.
  • Step 2
Place in the centre oven position and bake in a pre-heated oven at 200c for 40 minutes approximately. When bake the bread will have a hallow sound if trapped on the base. cool on a wire tray with a clean dry tea towel wrapped around the bread at this stage to give a softer crust.
  • Step 3
NOTE= You can use cow's milk if wish, but may produce a lighter crust colour when baked, that's alright. hope you all like and enjoy...:)
