Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon peel, grated
- 3 - eggs
- - confectioners' sugar
- - vegetable oil (for deep frying)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
How To Make southern style breakfast puffs

Step 1Heat some (clean) oil 2-3 minutes in deef fryer or deep saucepan.

Step 2Combine flour, 1/2 cup confectioners sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg in a small bowl. Set aside.

Step 3Combine milk, water, oil (1/4 cup) and lemon peel in a saucepan. Heat till boiling.

Step 4Add flour mixture aal at once. Beat in until mixture pulls away from the side of the pan and forms like a ball. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

Step 5Add eggs, one at a time. Beat in between.

Step 6Drop your dough by tablespoonfuls into the oil. Fry 3-4 puffs at a time for 4-6 minutes or till golden. Turn as needed.

Step 7Drain them on paper towels. Then sprinkle with confectioners sugar. (You can put them one at a time in a paper or plastic bag with sugar and shake. ) (You can also mix 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and sift over warm puffs.)

Step 8Makes 32 puffs.
