Ingredients
- 2 cups white corn meal
- 2 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 - egg yolks, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 2 - egg whites, beaten stiff
How To Make southern spoonbread

Step 1Add the cornmeal gradually to the boiling water and let stand a few minutes.

Step 2Add the butter, salt and egg yolks.

Step 3Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk and add to the cornmeal mixture.

Step 4Fold in the egg whites.

Step 5Turn into a buttered casserole.

Step 6Bake at 375F for 40 minutes.
