When we were growing up we had either biscuits or cornbread with every meal. We didn't live in town so Mom made the bread that we ate with our meals. She didn't measure anything but this is as close as I can get to her recipe.

corm meal
6 Tbsp
all purpose flour
1 Tbsp
1 Tbsp
(heaping) baking powder
egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c
melted butter
1 c

How to Make Southern Cornbread


  • 1Preheat oven to 450 F.
  • 2Mix all dry ingredients together in mixing bowl.
  • 3Mix wet ingredients together in separate bowl.
  • 4Combine dry and wet ingredients and stir until mixed well.
  • 5Pour into round cake pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
  • 6Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until done.
